What a Week That Was

Well. A week out from life in California. I'd say not a lot happened, but I'd be lying. First, I drove 2800 miles in four days, had the afore-mentioned encounter with Salt Lake City's finest (and believe me, I am thankful it didn't turn out badly for me. Not all unsignalled lane changes are equal). Then, we unloaded the car, and I got my first time in D.C. as a no-longer-Californian. We picked Alex up, and Tuesday, we went to see the Air & Space Museum. Then I had an unfortunate encounter with a bout of gastroenteritis which resulted in my spending the night in the local ER.

The Sorting Continues

Well, Claire departed a week ago, and I have been continuing the digging and sorting process all week long. The place is still a wreck--but I think I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Which is good, seeing's how the movers come in on Tuesday.

Sorting Through

As Claire's departure date rapidly approaches, we are feverishly sorting through the mountains of ... stuff that we have accumulated over the last 11+ years. We have given many things away to friends and Goodwill, and thrown piles of things away as well. It's amazing how many things seem useful when you plan on staying in one place, but how they don't matter much when you have to ship or carry them from one place to another!

The Last Day

It's hard to believe, but my life as a Librarian in the county library is coming to an end.

Eleven years of keeping the books moving, of helping people find their enjoyment, of being the go-to reference, done. My emotions are tender.

People have been coming in all day and leaving me small gifts, cards. It is surprising to me to realize that people--regular people who come in to the library--are going to miss me.
